2009 SPECIAL OLYMPICS NEW ZEALAND - NATIONAL SUMMER GAMES

The 2009 National Summer Games is being hosted in the Manawatu Region from 2nd – 5th December 2009.

Over 1000 athletes and 400 coaches and team managers will gather in Palmerston North to participate in Special Olympics’ 7th National Summer Games which will provide competition opportunities in ten sports.

Around 500 local volunteers will help to stage the following events:

•Aquatics at the Freyberg Community Pool from Thurs 3rd – Sat 5th
•Athletics at the Massey Community Athletics Track from Thurs 3rd – Sat 5th
•Basketball at Arena 2, Arena Manawatu from Thurs 3rd – Sat 5th
•Bocce (similar to Petanque) at the Ballroom, Arena Manawatu from Thurs 3rd to Sat 5th
•Bowling (Tenpin) at Bowlarama, Cuba St. from Thurs 3rd to Sat 5th
•Equestrian at Manfeild Park, Feilding from Thurs 3rd to Fri 4th
•Football at Arena 6, Arena Manawatu from Thurs 3rd to Fri 4th
•Golf at the Palmerston North Golf Club from Thurs 3rd to Sat 5th
•Indoor Bowls at the B&M Centre, Arena Manawatu from Thurs 3rd to Sat 5th
•Powerlifting at the Bell Hall, Arena Manawatu on Thurs 3rd or Fri 4th TBC

The Opening Ceremony will be held in Arena 2, Arena Manawatu at 7:30pm (time TBC) on Wednesday 2nd December and the Closing Ceremony will be held in the same venue and same time on Saturday 5th December.
