- The R.Tucker Thompson Sail Training Trust has a mission of Learning for Life through the Sea. The tall ship provides a range of experiences ranging from day sails through to 7-day youth sail training voyages. Our 3-day Eco-sail enables passengers to learn about the Bay of Islands environment and our 5-day Historic Northland voyages tells the story of how New Zealand was settled by Maori and Pakeha, to create a unique treaty between two peoples.

Teacher sets sail to sea with youth
A new position has been created with Northland’s youth sail training ship the R. Tucker Thompson to enhance the Trust’s sail training programmes.
The appropriately named Miranda Shackell, a teacher who has worked at a number of schools in the North as well as most recently Waimakoia school in Bucklands Beach, joins the Trust as the Youth Development Manager.
